Crime and violence in Bonteheuwel, located on the Western Cape Flats, has escalated to such an extent that gangster-ism, drugs and moral decadence have become deep-rooted in the community. What exacerbates the problem is the high rate of unemployment particularly among young people that increased exponentially.

This however does not prevent Bonteheuwel High School of introducing Skills Development Programs. It is within this context that funding is sought to link unemployed young people in two distinctive ways:

– Firstly, to offer a job-seekers program where young people can be linked to the nearby business community, including internship and learnership opportunities.

– Secondly, to offer skills development programs that businesses in the surrounding communities can use. Thus making more young people employable through a work readiness program, which will simultaneously address the spate of substance abuse, gangster-ism, and violence pervading young people in the surrounding community of Bonteheuwel.

Langa is directly opposite and can benefit from such a program as well.
